Blu Tape Rentals is not just another equipment and expendable rental company serving the film industry in Los Angeles – It’s BETTER! Why, you might ask? The easy answer would be that it is the collaborative result of two seasoned film industry forces: Matthew Murphy, a powerhouse Lead-man (a.k.a ‘The Bear’) and Jesse Wight, a sought-after Set Decorator (a.k.a ‘Jack of all Trades – Master of Most’).
Knowing firsthand how busy pickup, shoot and wrap days can be, these two colleagues, friends and business partners got together in early 2012, with only a few hundred sq. feet of a dusty lockup bay within the infamous ‘Western Studio Services’ building in Burbank, CA, and a grand vision to create an easy one-stop production facility, that would not only cater to the needs of art departments and productions alike, but to the hard working crew as well. The business operated successfully out of Western for the first two and a half years until growth forced their relocation to it’s current 5,300 sq/ft building at 525 S. Flower Street in burbank.
“The more we observed our daily working patterns, the more we realized the need for a company like this” -Matthew. “We wanted to create a unique space where crew members from Lead-men to Prop Masters and Art Directors could conveniently store their bulky onset kits – because, the truth is that nobody wants it consuming half of their garage – as well as park their cars and production trucks (long term or short term), rent equipment for the job, shop for expendables, and/or just simply drop by to have a coffee and shoot a round of pool with some familiar faces” -Jesse. Simply put, “the day just got a little easier!”
